Anti blue light lenses are a typical application of blue light absorbers. Let's first talk about what blue light is and what blue light absorbers are.
The range of blue light is 400-500nm, and 400-450nm is short wave blue light, also known as harmful blue light; 450-500 is long wave blue light, also known as beneficial blue light.
Blue light absorbing agents selectively filter out a portion (not all) of potentially harmful shortwave blue light (around 400nm-450nm). Blue light with a wavelength of 415-455 nm (especially 430-450 nm) has high energy and is a key protected object. It can penetrate the cornea and lens and directly reach the retina. Long term excessive exposure may cause damage to retinal photoreceptor cells and increase the risk of macular degeneration; Inhibiting melatonin secretion and interfering with circadian rhythms (such as insomnia caused by screen watching before bedtime); Stimulating the ciliary muscle tension can cause eye fatigue, dryness, and blurred vision.
Blue light absorbers can reduce the transmittance of blue light, and while preventing blue light, it is also necessary to ensure that the lens or anti blue film has good transparency.
In real life, blue light absorbers have been widely used in anti blue light lenses.
1. Working principle of anti blue light glasses
Anti blue light glasses are functional glasses that use lens materials or coatings loaded with blue light absorbers to block blue light. They are currently the most popular blue light protection tool.
Absorption type: Organic blue light absorbers are added to the lens substrate to directly absorb 400-500nm blue light, reducing the amount of blue light entering the eye through the lens.
Reflective: The surface of the lens is coated with inorganic blue light absorbers such as nano oxides, which block some blue light through reflection.
Composite type: It adopts both absorption and reflection technologies to balance the protective effect and transmittance (adopted by mainstream high-end products).
2. Classification of anti blue light glasses
Divided by functional scenarios:
Daily universal type: Blue light blocking rate of 30% -40%, suitable for long-term office work, mobile phone browsing and other scenarios, with small color cast and no impact on normal vision.
Esports/Heavy Use Type: Blue light blocking rate of 40% -60%, for high blue light devices (such as gaming monitors), stronger protection, but may have slight color cast (mostly yellow tone).
Children's specific type: With a barrier rate of 35% -50%, the material is lighter and impact resistant (such as PC material), and the frame design fits the shape of children's faces.
Classified by lens material:
Resin lenses: High cost performance, easy to process, can add various blue light absorbers, suitable for most people.
PC lenses: Strong impact resistance, lightweight, suitable for children or sports scenes, but slightly lower light transmittance than resin lenses.
Glass lenses: high transmittance, wear-resistant, but heavy and fragile, rarely used for anti blue light glasses.
Summary
Blue light absorbers are the core of anti blue light technology, which achieve protection by selectively absorbing blue light; Anti blue light glasses are their most popular application products, and when purchasing, attention should be paid to the barrier rate, transmittance, and color cast, and scientifically choose according to their own usage scenarios. However, it should be noted that anti blue light glasses are only auxiliary tools. Reasonable use of eyes and control of electronic device usage time are the fundamental ways to protect vision. Our company has a variety of blue light absorbers that can be used in the above anti blue light lens products. Please feel free to inquire.Jiangxi LotChem Co., Ltd
