Low-alkalinity, low-volatility, extraction-resistant hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), non-traditional phenolic antioxidants, primarily used in polyolefins (PP/PE), EVA, cable materials, automotive interiors, and agricultural films.
Chemical category: N-alkoxy hindered amine (NOR-HALS), macromolecular monomer type
CAS number: 129757-67-1
Appearance: white / slightly yellow crystalline powder
Smell: Almost no peculiar smell
Physical form: Solid powder, easily dispersible in polyolefins, EVA, and plastic resins
Molecular weight: ≈450 g/mol
Melting point: ≈110–120℃
Density: ≈1.05 g/cm³
Characteristics: low alkalinity, low volatility, migration resistance, hydrolysis resistance, good compatibility with polyolefins
II. Mechanism of Action (Different from Ordinary HALS)
Common HALS pain points: Traditional 622, 944, and 770 are all strongly alkaline. When they encounter acidic systems such as halogen-free flame retardants like aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, phosphorus-based systems, and zinc borate, they undergo acid-base reactions → become ineffective → bloom → and suffer from deteriorated weather resistance.
Mechanism of LOTSORB NOR 116
Neutral structure: It does not react with acidic flame retardants, fillers, or catalyst residues; it efficiently captures free radicals, preventing photo-aging and thermo-oxidative aging of polymers; it decomposes peroxides, cutting off the aging chain reaction; it inhibits copper ion-catalyzed aging (contact aging of copper conductors in wires and cables); it possesses dual efficacy of photo-stability and long-term thermo-oxidative aging stability.
III. Key Performance Advantages (EVA / Core Value of Cable Material)
Low-alkalinity compatibility with halogen-free flame retardant: A perfect match for EVA/PE halogen-free flame retardant cable compounds (ATH/Mg (OH)₂ + phosphorus-nitrogen flame retardant), without affecting flame retardant efficiency, precipitation, or blooming.
Low-volatile, high-temperature resistant processing: It does not decompose or volatilize at 200℃, and is compatible with EVA (100–140℃) and PP (200–230℃) for extrusion, granulation, and injection molding, without mold contamination or odor.
Resistant to migration and extraction: Due to its macromolecular structure, it does not migrate or get extracted by water/oil, making it suitable for long-term outdoor use (photovoltaic/EVA film), high-temperature environments (automotive wiring harness), and water contact (agricultural film/cable).
Excellent resistance to thermal-oxidative aging: By adding 0.3–0.5% of LOTSORB NOR 116 to EVA 1828 cable material, long-term thermal aging (100℃×1000h), weather resistance (QUV/Xenon lamp), and copper resistance (inhibiting copper ion-catalyzed degradation) can be significantly improved.
IV. Typical Applications
1. Wire and cable industry (the main force)
Halogen-free flame-retardant polyolefin cable compounds, EVA insulation layers, sheathing compounds, photovoltaic cables, automotive wiring harnesses, rail transit cables, shielding compounds. Addressing pain points: conflict between flame retardancy and light stability, poor heat aging resistance, blooming, copper-induced aging, and poor outdoor weather resistance.
2. EVA photovoltaic encapsulation film
Enhance resistance to ultraviolet aging, thermo-oxidative aging, and yellowing, and prolong the outdoor service life of photovoltaic modules.
3. Polyolefin injection molding and extrusion products
Automotive interior and exterior parts, bumpers, instrument panels, and air conditioning components are resistant to weathering, anti-aging, and do not discolor.
4. Agricultural film, geomembrane, greenhouse film, and stretch film
Long-term exposure to the outdoors, anti-aging, extended service life, and no powder cracking.
5. Filled modified plastics
Highly filled with talcum powder, calcium carbonate, and glass fiber, PP/PE maintains weather resistance and does not precipitate even under high filling conditions.
LOTSORB NOR 116 is a high-end light stabilizer specifically designed for halogen-free flame-retardant EVA/PE cable compounds. Its key benefits include: neutrality, ensuring no interference with flame retardants; high-temperature processing resistance; no blooming; resistance to copper damage; and strong weathering and aging resistance.
